Who may qualify for WIC
WIC is not limited to single mothers. Fathers, grandparents, foster parents, and other caregivers may apply for an eligible infant or child in their care. South Carolina also says foster children under 5 and pregnant foster teens may qualify.

For each person above eight, add $10,508 per year, $876 per month, or $203 per week. Check the official 2026 income chart before your appointment.
If you currently receive South Carolina Medicaid, SNAP, or TANF, you may already meet the WIC income test. Bring an active card or official eligibility notice as requested. A SNAP EBT card by itself is not accepted as proof. You must still meet the other WIC rules and complete the appointment.

How to use the eWIC card
South Carolina places approved foods in a family eWIC account. One card can cover the family members on the account. Benefits have start and end dates. Unused food benefits do not roll over after they expire.
- Check your food list and balance before shopping.
- Use the approved store map to find a nearby vendor.
- Choose the exact approved size, type, and brand shown in the guide or app.
- Tell the cashier that you are using WIC and swipe the eWIC card first.
- Enter the four-digit PIN and use another payment method for non-WIC items.
- Keep the receipt. It shows what was used, what remains, and the expiration date.
The free SC WIC mobile app can show benefits, appointments, clinics, and stores. It can also scan a product code to help check whether an item is approved. You need an active eWIC card to register.
If a product does not go through, ask the cashier to remove it instead of paying for it by mistake. Check the package size and your current benefit list. Call the clinic if the app and store system do not match.
Breastfeeding, formula, and pumps

2026 WIC farmers market benefits
The South Carolina WIC Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program runs from May 1 through September 30, 2026. Eligible participants may receive $30 to buy South Carolina-grown fresh fruit, vegetables, and cooking herbs from approved farmers. The family maximum is $60.
These benefits are limited and are not given to every eligible participant. They are issued at select public health departments. They use the SoliMarket app or a separate shopper card, not the normal eWIC card. Ask your clinic early and check the farmers market program for current issuing sites and farmers.

Common mistakes to avoid
- Using only an EBT card as proof: South Carolina says the SNAP card alone is not accepted. Bring an official eligibility notice.
- Missing the appointment: Call before it passes and ask to reschedule.
- Buying the wrong package: A small change in size, brand, type, or flavor can cause a decline.
